Where to Drink in Cape Charles

Let’s get one thing straight: Cape Charles is not and doesn’t want to be a party town. You are very unlikely to see drunk tourists stumbling around or college kids going wild on spring break. Cape Charles is very family-friendly and laid-back — but that doesn’t mean we don’t know how to have a good time. To put it simply, you won’t go thirsty while you’re here. If you’re wondering where to drink in Cape Charles, let this article be your guide.

If you’re craving cider

A running joke in Cape Charles is that at least half of the people there are actually from Richmond — including the folks behind Buskey Cider on the Bay. This cidery, situated at 109 Mason Avenue, got its start in the River City before creating an outpost here in Cape Charles. They have a small tasting room and a large patio with picnic tables and adirondack chairs. Stop in to sample some of their creative flavors (we love the watermelon rosemary), or play trivia on select nights.

Cape Charles Brewing Company

If you’re craving beer

Cape Charles Brewing Company is a family-owned and -operated outfit just on the edge of town. Here you’ll find an extensive menu of brews, many inspired by life on the Eastern Shore. Some of our favorites are the Puddle Island Porter, Smith Island Oyster Stout, and Assateague Island IPA. Besides the beer, they have a great food menu and one of our favorite outdoor dining experiences with lawn games, a fire pit, occasional live music, and a couple of old train cars that kiddos love to explore.

If you’re craving cocktails

For cocktails in Cape Charles, look no further than Cape Charles Distillery located at 222 Mason Avenue in the heart of town. They offer handcrafted vodkas, gins, and whiskeys made with Virginia-sourced ingredients. You can drop by to pick up a bottle to enjoy throughout your stay — one of our favorite souvenirs from the Shore. Or settle into their posh outdoor lounge area for a round or two of expertly prepared craft cocktails.

Chatham Vineyards Eastern Shore VA

If you’re craving wine

There’s not much that's more refreshing than a glass of crisp white wine on a hot summer day. If you want to stay in town, Gull Hummock (115 Mason Ave.)  is where you’ll find an extensive selection of wine by the bottle. They have free tastings too, and you can even enjoy your bottle at their cozy sidewalk tables with a cheese plate. If you’re up for a little excursion, Chatham Vineyards is a short drive up the Shore. Here you can share a bottle of wine while soaking in the scenery of a 400-year-old working farm.
