Introducing Sunshine Rays: A family-friendly Cape Charles vacation rental

When I first met Becky Carrier in Cape Charles, she was riding her golf cart by our house with her young son and a cake from Coastal Baking Co. I was happy to meet another friendly neighbor, but couldn’t have imagined that one day we’d be co-hosting her Cape Charles Airbnb! We’re so excited to announce that Becky and her husband Steve are Cape Charles Escapes’ first official clients. Together we’ll be hosting guests at their Cape Charles vacation rental called Sunshine Rays.

Steve and Becky discovered Cape Charles through the power of Google in 2016 when they were living in Maryland. They searched for “Affordable beach towns in VA/MD” and Cape Charles popped up in their search results. “Neither my wife nor I had ever heard of Cape Charles, but we decided to give it a try,” says Steve. “On our drive in through Northampton County, we had a difficult time imagining a beach town set among the farm, fields, and railroads, but we were smitten as soon as we pulled into town.”

They rented a home on Randolph Street, and after just a few days, they started talking about buying a home in town. “The market was starting to heat up, so we kept an eye out, and in the spring of 2017, we finally found our home on Jefferson Avenue,” Steve says. “We immediately put an offer in sight unseen. We've been renting and vacationing in Cape Charles ever since.”

Located on the sixth block of Jefferson Avenue, Sunshine Rays is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house with a breezy front porch and a backyard oasis. “From the outside, our home looks like it has been in Cape Charles for the last 100 years,” Steve says. “However, the home was actually built in 2011, and it offers the benefit of blending in with the nearby historic homes while offering modern amenities within and in the backyard.”

Although the inside of the home is squeaky clean, cute, and comfortable for up to eight guests, the backyard is really the star of the show. “You will not find another backyard like this in Cape Charles,” Steve says. “The combination of the paved patio, outdoor fireplace, over-sized hammock, and Adirondack chairs invite guests to relax comfortably.” New this summer, guests can enjoy an outdoor shower and grill.

As parents with two young children themselves, Steve and Becky have made sure the house is equipped for families like their own. There’s a bunk room for children as well as a pack ‘n’ play, a high chair, toys, and other kid-friendly amenities throughout the house.

As with all Cape Charles Escapes rentals, high-quality linens are provided including plush bath towels and Turkish beach towels. Guests may self-check-in using the home’s smart lock. Sunshine Rays is equipped with powerful Wi-Fi, a smart TV loaded with apps, and a fully stocked kitchen.

Sunshine Rays is conveniently situated on a quiet block of Cape Charles’ historic district. From there, you’re six blocks (under half a mile) from the beach, three blocks from Central Park, and five blocks from Mason Avenue, the town’s main street.

“We want guests to view our home as their oasis from the outside world and a respite from a hot day at the beach,” Steve says. Check out Sunshine Rays here to book your stay in this charming Cape Charles vacation rental.
